shipping and logistics recruitment

Global logistics operator DP World has announced that it will establish freight-forwarding offices in Stockholm and Gothenburg, with operations scheduled to begin in February 2026. The new offices are designed to link Swedish importers and exporters with DP World’s global network — spanning some 180 business units across 70 countries.

The expansion is supported by a range of regional partners, including FoodTankers — a DP World subsidiary specialising in liquid-food transport — which recently celebrated 70 years of operations in Sweden, along with Business Sweden (the Swedish Trade and Invest Council), and local warehousing, final-mile and pre-on-carriage providers.

Export growth in Nordic territories

The Stockholm and Gothenburg offices will benefit from DP World’s digital freight-management system, their Cargoes platform. The platform is expected to strengthen Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) and streamline customs procedures for Swedish exporters. “Our new operation in Sweden will connect businesses across the country with our global network, create new jobs, and continue DP World’s investment in sustainable, technology-driven logistics,” said Stephen Whittingham, Executive Vice President — North Europe.“This is the next step in developing and expanding the service DP World offers to customers in Sweden across the automotive, technology, manufacturing, and retail sectors.”

“By establishing DP World in Stockholm and Gothenburg, we’re aiming to give regional customers a simpler, faster and more transparent way to move goods around the world and connect to the global market,” said Bojan Knightly, Country Manager — Sweden. “We are very excited with this announcement and look forward to further growth in Sweden and the wider region as we continue to scale up our operations in the Nordics.”

As part of the launch, DP World Sweden aims to run up to 25 per cent of shipments by rail and sea in its first operational year. The move is intended to reduce road emissions. It will also adopt fully e-documentation and online invoicing to phase out paper processes. The expansion aligns with DP World’s global sustainability initiative, Our World, Our Future, such as the much-reported incentive scheme at Southampton.

The Swedish operation will also support local education and equality initiatives, exploring partnerships with Transportföretagen and Logistiknätverk Göteborg to foster new innovation and skills. DP World has committed under this programme to reduce Scope 1 greenhouse-gas emissions by 42 per cent and Scope 3 emissions by 28 per cent by 2030 (from a 2022 baseline), with an overall ambition to reach net zero across all scopes by 2050.

The subsidiary operation FoodTankers, described as a “mobile pipeline” for the food and feed industries across Europe, operates a fleet of trucks and tank trailers serving customers from local breweries to multinational food processors. The certified company operates throughout the Nordic region and much of Western and Central Europe. For DP World, the development deepens its footprint in Northern Europe, improves global access for Swedish exporters and supports a long-term strategy of combining digital freight-management with sustainable, multimodal transport solutions.
